SURGERY & HOSPITAL WARD
6 jan - 8 jan 2020
this is C Ward, with the most subsidy and around 6-8 beds per room.
so many patients! (full ward) and so many stories...
code red
on tues afternoon, we heard an alarm go off. few minutes later, we noticed that there were NO NURSES IN SIGHT! it was an alarm for another room down the hall... alarm went on and on for about 20-30min. we saw doctors running in, equipment being wheeled in. and then i saw nurses starting to come back to the rooms and equipment being pushed away from the ward, and a curtain was drawn around one bed where the doctors and nurses were. sad to see that they didn't save the patient :(
elderly "chwee kueh" uncle queueing for bed at hospice
in christen's ward & room, he said the elderly uncle opposite his bed was shouting and talking all night on tues. christen did not get much rest. the next morning the elderly uncle was again talking in his sleep, quite loudly. i heard the nurses say he was waiting for a bed at the hospice. poor uncle. in the past few days he refused to eat and kept asking for chwee kueh when he actually meant watermelon... the nurses had a hard time trying to figure out what he wanted. we didn't see any visitors while we were there, but heard his daughter had come visit for a short while. really sad.
senior mentally handicap patient who spoke good english
next bed was a mentally handicapped patient recovering from some surgery. he was quite old, guessing in his late 40's to mid 50's. he ate a lot and was staring at everyone, very curious. he didn't talk much and was very calm. and he spoke very good english. 3 elderly aunties who seemed to be related to him, visited him once. they looked like his sisters.
mental patient waiting to transfer to IMH
next room was a mental patient who spoke really loud... unfortunately no one knew what he was trying to say. they were waiting to transfer him to IMH (mental hospital).
all these info i managed to pick up when nurses had to report on some patient's status. nurses were wonderful and caring. most are young and kind. it was a very very comfortable ward and some sad cases that week...
